5 Day Highland Getaway

Day 1:  We begin by meeting in Cheticamp at the visitors information center at the park entrance. We will meet and greet then register with National Park officials. Next we will shuttle to Le Bloque ( 5 min. North) where we will gear up and have a short briefing on the days events. Once geared up and underway we will paddle (8 miles) to picturesque Fishing Cove where we will set up camp, explore a few of the many sea caves, tell stories of local lore, and experience some back-woods cuisine at it's best.Kayak 2 Whales

Day 2: After a relaxing nights sleep we prepare a healthy breakfast and then gear up for our next leg of the paddle (14 miles) to Polletts Cove where the Blair River gorge meets the sea. There will be a short stop for lunch in Pleasant Bay where we can stretch and go for a rejuvenating dip in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The opportunity to chat with the local fishermen is also a probability. Once we arrive in Polletts Cove we will set up camp beside the River, build our campfire, cook supper, and if lucky enough we will do an evening paddle with the Pilot Whales. ZzZzZzZzZz!

Day 3:  Wake Up! Its time for the next leg to Meat Cove the most northerly community in Nova Scotia. After breakfast we gear up and do the remarkable 3rd leg of our journey (12 mile). The paddle to Meat Cove surpasses all splendor offering the most incredible panorama's along the way. There are giant granite archways resting over the oceans bed, numerous granite rock pinnacles, glacial scars in folded sheets of carboniferous bedrock making the paddler look like a flea in comparison to its magnitude, pilot whales teasing you to follow their lead, seals peering at you as they bob their heads taking a peek to feed their curiosity and waterfalls cascading to reach the sea throughout the journey. We will stop at Lowland Cove for a light lunch & rest than we make our way around Cape St Lawrence through the granite archway to Meat Cove for an evening at the famous Meat Cove campground (we are talking remote folks). It is located atop of a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Usually we see whales from our sites just before sunset as they make their way around the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Well, put out the campfire and have a good nights rest while the ocean’s surf lulls you to sleep.

Day 4 and 5:  Yum YumThe last 2 days of this tour we make our way around Cape North which is the northern most part of the province. We will stop at Jumping Brook Falls along the way where the daring will take a dip under the spectacular waterfalls which feeds the Atlantic Ocean. We will also stop at Money Point to do a small hike and explore the site of the first lighthouse in Eastern Canada. This site is rugged and stunningly beautiful. After exploring Money Point we will make our way to Cabot Landing which is the site where Italian Explorer Giovanni Caboto (aka John Cabot :-) first landed in North America in the year 1497. Be prepared to be flexible on our tours as was Mr. Caboto, the weather sometimes play funny tricks once and a while :-)
